La Cygne Emergency Gas Order Updates
On February 16, 2021, city staff distributed an Emergency Gas Order to La Cygne's gas customers via Facebook, the city's website, phone calls and paper copies delivered to homes or businesses. In the following weeks, the city provided updates of the gas situation. The final update on the situation can be found in the image below.

The Kansas Department for Children and Families provides funding for households struggling to pay the cost of services heating the home. Households may qualify for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), which can help with a one-time payment towards heating costs. Volunteers in La Cygne will be providing a free Christmas "grab-n-go" meal for the community. The meal will consist of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, a roll and cookies. Earlier this month La Cygne Mayor Debra Wilson met with Keith Stoker to officially thank him for his service on the City Council. Stoker, who sat on the council from January 8, 2018 to May 4, 2020, received one of the local banners celebrating La Cygne's sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary. Stoker told the council that although a new job is the primary factor in stepping down form his position, he will continue to be a part of the community.

The weekly pickup day for Waste Management customers will be moved from Wednesday, September 9, to Thursday, September 10. This schedule change is due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7. Customers need to make sure their trash cans are at the curb by 6 a.m. on Thursday and any questions can directed to City Hall (913-757-2144).

Waste Management customers living in the Kansas City Metro area (including Linn County) will need to abide to schedule changes for the next two months. The company issued a heat advisory from July 1 to September 1, 2020, which means trash-collection services will begin 1 hour earlier than normal. La Cygne residents are encouraged to take their cart(s) to the street curb 1 hour earlier each Wednesday so they don't miss the weekly pickup.
